Overview

Muslim Women’s Alliance is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization focused on the Islamic values of fairness, service to others, and community building. MWA’s core focus areas are development of women leaders, fostering community service, mentoring women to build confidence, and empowering the community through awareness and action on social issues.

Position Overview

The Director of Finance is responsible for the accounting functions of the organization, that is continually growing and maturing.  A key success factor for this position is the ability to be self-directed, highly motivated and hands-on across a wide area of responsibilities.  The Director is expected to take ownership of recurring accounting functions as well managing the donor database, and to drive process improvements within the finance department. Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with Executive Director to develop growth strategy for an increase in revenues
  • Responsible for creating detailed budgets and financial forecasts that would achieve growth in revenues while keeping expenses at historical levels
  • Overall responsibility for budgeting, forecasting, ad-hoc analysis, and business plans that ensured conformance with GAAP and company accounting policies
  • Analyzed monthly, quarterly, and annual financial performance which was translated into financial reports the Board of Directors along with growth strategy
  • General Ledger Activities and Account Reconciliations (80%) – 10-20 hours a month
  • Prepares journal entries for various expenses and accruals (monthly)
  • Prepares the Bank reconciliation (monthly)
  • Prepares the financial statements (monthly)
    • Income statement, Balance sheet and funds reconciliation and share with Board members with notes on monthly transactions.
  • Maintain appropriate support for the bank reconciliation and disbursements (monthly)
  • Manage the donor data base (monthly)

 

  • Other ad hoc reporting and projects (20%) – 5 hours a month
  • Maintain the “Director’s hours worked” log (Monthly)
    • Communicate and send reminders to directors to update the log
  • Communicate with the CPA firm to ensure all documentation has been sent (annual)
  • Upload all documents, receipts, bank statements and financials to Google Drive (monthly)
  • Maintain appropriate folders within google drive and share with board members (monthly)
  • Send out yearend tax receipts to donors (annual)

Experience and Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in accounting/ general ledger activities.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accountancy preferred.
  • Great attention to detail and commitment to excellence in review and work product.
  • Highly motivated and energetic team player – enjoys working hard in a dynamic team environment.
  • Motivated to expand responsibilities and experiences.
  • Problem solver with exceptional communication skills
  • Experience interacting with customers (ie. Board members and members of the organization)
  • Managing google drive a must.
  • Experience with Quickbooks, Quicken, Peachtree, a plus.
